7820HK vs 7700HQ Review- Laptop CPU Comparison and Benchmarks. We’re going to compare to impel cable a laptop CPUs against each other the 7700 HQ and 78 20 HK will grocery some benchmarks, to see how they perform and discuss the differences between them to help you decide if it’s worth paying more for the higher performing 7820 HK.
First let’s know, the similarities between these two cable X CPUs both were released in q1 of 2017 of a 14 nanometer manufacturing process and have 4 physical cores, with eight total threads with hyper-threadingb. Both CPUs also have the same TDP of 45 watts, that’s where the majority of the important similarities end so how do they differ.
The 7700 HQ has a base clock of 2.8 gigahertz and kentucker up to 3.8 gigahertz, while the 78 20 HK has a base clock of 2.9 gigahertz and can’t ever up to 3.9 gigahertz, so a small 100 megahertz improvement over. The 7700 HQ the 7700 HQ also has 6 megabytes of cache, while the 78 20 HK has a larger 8 megabytes of cache.
The main difference is decay in 7820 HK which means that this is an overclockable chip, I was able to temporarily borrow a laptop with a 78 20 HK CPU in order to run these benchmarks, unfortunately out of the box a laptop did not allow me to overclock. The CPU despite this being an overclockable chip it should be possible to do by installing custom BIOS for it, however as that would be to warranty and this laptop was in mind that wasn’t an option here most of the value in the 78 20 HK CPU is undoubtedly due to the fact that it can be overcooked. U
Unfortunately, I was not able to test this and instead will only be comparing both CPUs stock speeds and spoiler the 7820 HK still performed better than I expected even without overclocking, so despite not being able to overclock, I still wanted to find out how the extra 100 megahertz and 2 megabytes of case changes things to test this. I’ve run some CPU specific benchmarks on the two different laptops with these processes to find out I didn’t test any games here has both laptops have different graphics cards which introduces too many variables.
I was only interested in fewer CPU power here both laptops are otherwise mostly the same, they had the same speed ram and SSD and windows with latest updates installed in Cinebench the cpu score for the 7700 HQ with 714, while the 7820 HK received 772 so only a small improvement there, but an improvement nonetheless in the past mark cpu benchmarks.
The 7700 HQ at a cpu score of 8820, while the 7820 HK did a fair amount better with a score of 10,000 408 based on other parts mark results, this put the 7700 HQ in the top 79 percentile of results in the 78 20 HK in the top 90% which is pretty impressive at stock speeds in geek bench for the 7700 hqv 4402 for the single core score and 12,293 for the multi-core score.
The 7820 HK received a single core score of 4803 at a multi-core score of 14,000 646, so again the 7820 HK was ahead by a decent amount considering its small improvements over the 7700 HQ, the seventh eighth inch mark was run for ten pulses with the dictionary size of 32 megabytes the 7700 HQ got a total rating of 19,000 602 bits, while the 7820 HK got a total rating of 21,000 810 minutes again the 7820 HK was a decent amount of head here.
I then used ten breaks to encode a 500 megabyte mp4 video file that I recorded from 1080 P down to 720p a 7700 HQ completed the job at an average speed of 37 point 9 to 8 frames per second, while the 7820 HK completed encoding, the same file at thirty nine point six six seven frames per second so less than two frames per second of an improvement by the 7820 HK so as we expected to 7820 HK performs better, but how hot does it get in comparison.
The idle temperatures are actually fairly similar with the 7700 HQ setting at 25 degrees Celsius and the 7820 HK sitting at 28 degrees Celsius under load for around an hour the 7700 HQ maxed out at 56 degrees Celsius, while the 7820 HK maxed out at 70 degrees Celsius. These tests were done in a room with an ambient temperature of 23 degrees Celsius, again keep in mind that, that’s 72 three Celsius is before any overclocking, so if you are planning on overclocking, you’ll probably want to look at replacing the CPU to keep it as cool as you can and all.
The tests to 7820 HK came out ahead of the 7700 H cube as we expected, it’s just 100 megahertz after and has a two megabyte larger case which has definitely helped it to do well in these tests, it really would have been interesting to see how much more could be gained by overclocking and I’m a little sad that I won’t be able to find out right now, so based purely on stock speeds is it worth getting to 7820 HK over the 7700 HQ that depends.
Personally, I probably wouldn’t get it in this particular laptop model for 7820 HK is a 250 Australian dollar upgrade over the 7700 HQ this is around 190 US dollars, while the performance increase is actually more than I expected at stock speeds. The fact is that I use a laptop with even an older skylight 6700 HQ most of the time with absolutely no issues.
We haven’t seen that much performance increase in KB Lake over skylake so to me the extra money, isn’t really was the performance as I’m more than satisfied with what the 7700 HQ can provide if you already have a 7700 HQ CPU in your laptop there’s no point looking to upgrade as the 7700 HQ is soldered onto the board and not user replaceable this post was aimed at someone who’s deciding between the two prior to buying a laptop now of course, if you’re looking to overclock then the 7700 HQ is no good to you and you’d want to look at the 7820 HK.
However I’d argue that in a laptop overclocking, isn’t always that useful as it will increase power draw and heat output resulting in lower battery life which limits portability which is kind of the whole point of having a laptop over a desktop, although I suppose that you could just overclock when you plugged into power only if you really wanted to so what did you guys think about the differences in performance between 7700 HQ and 7820 HK cpus from intel again, I’m sorry about not being able to overclock the test its full potential, I still found the results quite interesting as i didn’t expect the 7820 HK to do as well as it did even at stock speeds.
